The organising committee of INGSM-23 is delighted to invite you to join us in the historic German city of AACHEN from Sunday 10th September – Thursday 14th September 2023.

We are proud to announce this event is being organized in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

This is the first ‘face-to-face’ INGSM since 2019 in Bruges. Thanks to “you-know-what”, 2020 was missed completely, 2021 was hosted on-line by North Carolina State University and 2022 by SINAP in Shanghai. After conducting a survey of a random selection of regular delegates, we have decided that there will be no remote/hybrid participation – with a potential audience spanning 16 time zones, coordination with the normal daytime hours in Western Europe is just too complicated. So we look forward to welcoming you in person.

AS USUAL, ABSTRACTS ARE INVITED IN ALL ASPECTS OF THE NUCLEAR GRAPHITE LIFE CYCLE.

THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS IN FORCE IN GERMANY EXCEPT THAT MASKS MUST BE WORN ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT.
This information will be updated here if any changes are introduced. In these uncertain times, however – who can tell? The Organising Committee reserves the right to make changes to the planning and arrangements for the conference in accordance with German government instructions relating to public health.

We shall meet in the top-floor conference centre at FORUM-M, above the bookshop Mayersche Aachen.

Mayersche is a huge bookstore with several coffee bars. Nearby are a number of cafes and restaurants where delegates will be able to obtain lunches. Aachen offers many venues for evening dining.

Aachen is a wonderful city to explore, especially the cathedral which escaped damage in the second world war when the city was under siege. The ‘Dom’ includes Charlemagne’s chapel – he spent Christmas here in AD 768. You can visit Germany’s smallest pub, Ratskeller.

Reflecting to ‘nuclear’ history of Forshungszentrum Jülich, which is not far away, you can even admire a fountain feature constructed entirely from (dummy) fuel pebbles!
